Accounting Information Systems
Fall 2008
 |
|
Extra credit is
being offered for an assignment in which you are
invited: to read the Wall Street Journal during
the semester; to clip articles relating to
developments in information technology and their
impact on accounting and business in general; and
to prepare an article summarizing your findings.
Your summary
should not include a precis of each individual
Wall Street Journal article that you are
submitting, but should comment on what you have
read, identify themes and trends, and note any
conclusions you have reached. You may, of course,
cross-refer to specific articles; it is not
expected that you will refer to articles that you
do not submit; however, it is envisaged that you
may submit numerous articles, even if you have
not referred to each of them individually in your
summary. Photocopies of articles will be
accepted, and may indeed be the most convenient
format for submission.
Articles generated by
electronic searches will also be accepted, but you should
remember that the purpose of the submission of the report and
articles is to furnish evidence that you have been reading the
Wall Street Journal - not that you can use a search engine.
Your grade will reflect any failure to be convincing.
Other sources of
information may be used in support of what you
say in your summary, but this should clearly be
in addition to, not instead of, Wall Street
Journal articles.
The following
notes on presentation are not intended to stifle
your artistic creativity, but are designed to
provide a level playing field for all students.
You MUST adhere strictly to these word-processing
guidelines; there will be significant penalties
for non-compliance. It is expected, but not
mandatory, that you will use Microsoft WORD to
prepare your summary.
If you decide to submit this
assignment, it is due outside my office at the start of the
final class of the semester.
